SAN CRISTOFORO
This
small village is situated at 330 metres above sea on a small hill
behind Capitello in a position which gives it a splendid view
of the Gulf of Policastro. The settlement was founded in the 5th
century B.C. when the Cilento coast was subject to frequent incursions
by pirate.
Previously known by the name Sant’Agata, San Cristoforo,
like nearby Ispani, acquired is present name during the Spanish
domination of Southern Italy. The village is centered upon the
parish church and its stepped buildings are aligned along its
single main street.
A small church situated a short distance from the village is well
worth a visit.
