SICILI'
Sicilì
is situated at about 200 metres above sea level on a small hill
on the green slopes of Monte
Mamino on the middle course of the river Bussentino.
Sicilì’s favoured geographical position, fertile
countryside and mild climate induce the visitor to linger, even
in winter, in the small central piazza, from where the village’s
characteristic paved streets all radiate.
Little is known of its origins, but Sicilì was already
an important settlement during the 16th century when it became
the baronial seat of the De Stefano family, which governed the
feud until the early eighteen hundreds. The De Stefano family
were the founders of the 16th century church of the Annunziata
which, according to popular tradition was built on the site of
a Italo-Greek shrine dedicated St Theodore.
